A County Down man has denied murdering his cousin, former Irish league footballer David Mills.

John Stanley Foster, 31, pleaded not guilty, at Downpatrick Crown Court, sitting in Belfast, to killing him on 30 September 2012.

Mr Mills, who was 47, suffered serious head injuries after he was attacked in Dromore Street, Ballynahinch, County Down in the early hours.

He was taken to hospital in a critical condition and subsequently died.

Mr Foster, from Corrigs Road in Newcastle, County Down who is a cousin by marriage of the victim, was released on continuing bail until his trial, which is due to be heard in November.
