The bodies of two males have been recovered from a disused quarry in County Down.

The pair are believed to have drowned at the site on the Glassdrumman Road near Annalong.

It is understood a teenage boy went into the water and a man went in after him, but the pair got into difficulty.

The emergency services received a call about an incident at the quarry at about 18:00 BST on Saturday.

PSNI divers, the Fire and Rescue Service and the coastguard have been involved in the operation at Spence mountain, between Newcastle and Annalong.

An investigation is under way into exactly what happened.

South Down MLA Jim Wells said: "The whole community's thoughts and prayers go out to the two families involved who have suffered this horrendous tragedy".
