Thomson apologises to NI travellers

The holiday firm Thomson has apologised after 57 holidaymakers from Northern Ireland were unable to return home from Lanzarote for two nights.

The travellers were originally due to fly home from the Spanish island on Thursday night.

However, Thomson said a delay on one of its outbound flights from Belfast meant this was not possible.

It said the plane then developed a technical fault which was being resolved.

The firm said the flight from Lanzarote should return later on Saturday to Belfast International Airport.

"The Thomson flight left Belfast International later than planned on Thursday 23 May which meant that the aircraft couldn't carry out the inbound journey, flight number TOM1473, as there wasn't enough crew hours, so the passengers had a one night stop," Thomson said in a statement.

"On Friday 24 May the plane developed a technical fault which required the passengers to stay a second additional night.

"Thomson is currently resolving this fault and plans to return inbound to Belfast International Airport leaving Lanzarote tonight at 9pm.

"All passengers have been looked after in hotel accommodation in Lanzarote. Thomson apologises for any inconvenience caused."
