Rev Robert Ormerod killed in car crash on M6, England

A senior member of the Free Presbyterian Church in Northern Ireland has been killed in a car crash in Warwickshire, England.

The Rev Robert Ormerod, minister at Cloughmills, County Antrim, was driving the car, which left the road near junction four of the M6, and fell down an embankment and landed on its roof.

Three women in their 50s suffered minor injuries and were treated in hospital.

The crash happened at about 12:50 BST on Tuesday.

Mr Ormerod was ordained in February 1985 and had been minister of Cloughmills Free Presbyterian Church since that time.

The moderator of the Free Presbyterian Church, the Reverend John Greer, said Mr Ormerod was "esteemed" in his own congregation and throughout the denomination.

"His colleagues in the general presbytery of the Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster deeply mourn his sudden passing and assure his wife, sons and daughters of their sincere sympathy and prayerful support," he said.
