Man critical after pair attacked with baseball bat

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after he and another man were assaulted in Newtownabbey, County Antrim.

Their attacker, who was possibly armed with a baseball bat, struck on the Carnmoney Road, near Coolehill Park, at about 01:00 GMT on Monday.

Both victims sustained head injuries. A 43-year-old man is still in hospital, but the other man has been discharged.

The attacker is believed to be in his 40s.

The Carnmoney Road has been re-opened to traffic.
