The charge against a former security guard at the Mauritian hotel where a Country Tyrone woman was murdered on her honeymoon has been dropped.

Michaela McAreavey, 27, was killed in her honeymoon suite at the Legends hotel in January 2011.

Dassen Naraynen, 27, was accused of conspiracy to commit larceny, which he denied, but on Friday, Mapou District Court dropped that charge.

Last year, two other hotel workers were acquitted of the murder.

Mr Naraynen was originally charged with conspiracy to murder but this was reduced to conspiracy to commit larceny.

He has denied any involvement in Mrs McAreavey's death.

His lawyer, Vishal Teeluckdharry, said the decision to drop the charge was "indeed very good news".

Detectives in Mauritius started a new investigation into the murder the day after the trial ended.
