A 20-year-old man arrested over serious disorder in east Belfast has been charged with a number of offences.

They include assault occasioning actual bodily harm to a police constable and two further assaults on police.

He is also charged with riotous behaviour, possession of an offensive weapon, obstruction of a road and criminal damage.

The alleged offences happened in the Albertbridge Road area on 12 January.

Loyalists and nationalists clashed in the area after a union flag protest in the city centre.

It happened as loyalists returned from a demonstration at city hall, against the council's decision to limit the number of days the union flag is flown.

The man is due to appear in court on Wednesday.
