Bomb discovered near Omagh police officer's home

Police say the device found was a viable explosive.

A bomb has been found close to the home of a police officer in County Tyrone.

It was found in the Coolnagard area of Omagh on Saturday afternoon.

Officers were conducting a follow-up investigation into an incident in the same area on Friday night when an off-duty police officer fired a number of shots.

No one was injured in the incident on the Kevlin Road. The police are appealing for information.

Detectives say they want to speak to anyone in the area who noticed anything out of the ordinary between the hours of 08:00 GMT and midnight on Friday as well as over the past number of months.

Sinn Fein West Tyrone MLA Declan McAleer has said people living in the area are annoyed at what's happened.

A number of homes were evacuated but residents have since been allowed to return.

The Police Ombudsman has been informed about the shots being fired.
