Two brothers have appeared in court charged with the double murder of a couple who were set on fire at a house in County Armagh six years ago.

Martin Smith, 40, and his 37-year-old brother, Niall, were remanded in custody at Armagh Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

They are accused of murdering Thomas O'Hare and Lisa McClatchey at the couple's home on Foley Road in Tassagh, near Keady, in 2006.

The pair are also charged with arson.

Mr O'Hare and Ms McClatchey were beaten with hammers and doused in petrol before being set on fire at the isolated bungalow they shared.

Both died in hospital from their injuries.

The Smith brothers were arrested in the Republic of Ireland in December and were later extradited to Northern Ireland.

The were remanded in custody and are to appear in court again in four weeks.
