Police investigating robbery bid arrest man

Police investigating an attempted robbery in south Belfast have arrested a 24-year-old man.

Police were called to the Ormeau Road at about 11:00 GMT on Thursday following reports of masked and possibly armed men in the area.

A blue Renault Laguna car with registration YBZ 5390 that police believe was used by the men was found in Baroda Street at around midday.

The men are believed to have made off towards Elgin Street and Delhi Street.

Police are also keen to trace the movements of a second car, a grey BMW 320 touring, regristration UEZ 8597, which was also abandoned in Baroda Street after colliding with a police vehicle.

Police have asked anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the area to contact them on 0845 600 8000 or to give information to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The man arrested has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
