Man is attacked by gang on Dublin to Belfast train

Police are treating an attack on a 51-year-old man on the Dublin to Belfast train by a gang of men as a hate crime.

Four men assaulted the victim and shouted homophobic abuse while they were travelling between Newry and Portadown on Saturday night.

The man was attacked and had his laptop smashed. He received treatment in hospital for a broken nose and minor head injuries.

The attackers also took his iPod Nano and two sets of earphones.

Police said the men got off the train at Portadown.

They said the attack was being treated as a hate crime.
