Two hijacking attempts in Carrickfergus

Two attempted hijackings in Carrickfergus, County Antrim, are being investigated by police.

A man approached a female driver in the forecourt of a filling station on the Woodburn Road at about 09:10 GMT on Saturday and attempted to take her vehicle. He then fled on foot.

A man also approached a delivery van in Blackthorn Park at about 10:20 GMT and ordered the male driver out of the vehicle.

The driver of the van drove off.

There were no reports of any injuries. Police said a link between the incidents was a major line of inquiry.

Police arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the incidents. He has since been released on bail pending further inquiries.
