Planners have approved a housing development on the site of Bangor Grammar School in County Down.

The College Avenue site was bought by Ballyquinn Properties earlier this year - the school will shortly be relocating to a new building on Gransha Road.

The housing scheme will consist of 43 detached and semi detached houses set around a green while the original school building will be converted into apartments.

Ballyquinn Properties is owned by the former Formula One racing driver Eddie Irvine.

Mr Irvine, a former Bangor Grammar pupil, has amassed a considerable property empire since he retired from the sport.
