Derry device 'designed to destroy armoured vehicles'

Londonderry's police chief says the device found in a car in Creggan last night was a type of explosive designed to destroy armoured vehicles and kill those inside.

District commander Stephen Martin says it was a "projectile weapon" often used in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The bomb was found in a car in Westway in the Creggan area on Thursday night.

Four men, all aged in their 40s, have been arrested by police in Derry.

Some residents had to leave their homes while the Army dealt with the bomb, which was described as "a viable improvised explosive device".
