Belfast city centre lights up for Christmas

Crowds gathered in central Belfast to watch the city's Christmas lights being switched on Saturday evening.

Lord Mayor Gavin Robinson was joined at the Belfast City Hall event by broadcaster Julian Simmons and local pantomime stars.

Characters from the CBeebies TV show, the ZingZillas, were the main attraction at the free, ticketed show.

Earlier on Saturday, the now annual Belfast Christmas Market opened to the public in the grounds of the city hall.

The market, which features dozens of stalls selling food and crafts from across Europe, will operate seven days a week until 20 December.
