A man who bought a £500 quad bike for his three-year-old son for Christmas has been fined £350 and disqualified from driving for three months.
Londonderry magistrates court was told that the police stopped Ryan Johnston, 22, from Fergleen Park, as he drove the quad in the Galliagh area in April.
Johnston admitted driving the quad without insurance, without a licence and without a vehicle test certificate.
Johnston said he was driving the quad to his sister's house to store it.
When the district judge asked about the age of Johnston's son, defence solicitor Paddy McGurk described the £500 purchase as a long term investment he said the quad was seized by the police and has not been returned to Johnston.
