Roads in several parts of County Down have been flooded following heavy rain

Roads in several parts of County Down have been flooded following heavy rain.

The Roads Service has been dealing with calls in Comber, Saintfield, Ballynahinch and Newcastle.

The Old Holywood Road in Holywood and Loughisland Road, between Buckshead Road and Annacloy, have both been closed due to flooding.

The Bangor railway line has been shut due to a small landslide near Marino. It will remain closed until 15:00 BST and a bus substitution is in place.

Weather warning

The police have advised motorists to take extra care on their journeys on Thursday.

A number of other roads are partially flooded but are described as passable with care.

The Finnebrogue Road - between Killyleagh Road and Belfast Road outside Downpatrick - had been closed to traffic earlier but has since reopened.

BBC reporter Ita Dungan travelled across County Down on Thursday morning, examining the levels of surface water.

"I started out this morning going to Dundondald and to Comber, large areas of the road were flooded, but it was passable," she said.

"The roads service had been out from 05:00 BST working on the drains and made conditions a little bit better."

Another inch of rain is expected on Thursday with a yellow weather warning from the Met Office remaining in force.
