Newtownabbey suspicious approaches investigated by PSNI

Police are investigating whether four suspicious approaches to children in Newtownabbey this month are linked.

In the latest incident, a 10-year-old boy ran off after a man got out of a dark blue van and approached him at Tulleevin Walk on Wednesday night.

Police are also investigating reports of approaches in Fernagh Avenue on 1 October and Green Walk and Queens Park on 2 October.

Officers are looking to see if there are any similarities in the reports.

The man in Wednesday night's incident was described as being about 5ft 6ins tall, wearing a black hooded top with the hood up and black bottoms, which were tucked into black boots.

A police spokesperson said: "In addition to the comprehensive enquiries being carried out by CID, local response and neighbourhood officers have been increasing the frequency of their patrols around local schools and have been in direct contact with a number of schools to offer any advice or guidance they might require.

"Targeted patrolling has also been put in place in areas around youth clubs and other places frequented by children and young people."
