A security alert in south Belfast, sparked by the discovery of a suspicious object, has ended.

A number of houses in Lenaghan Park were evacuated and part of the road was closed while Army bomb disposal experts carried a controlled explosion.

A police spokesman said: "On later investigation, the suspicious object was deemed nothing untoward".

The residents have been allowed to return to their homes and the road has reopened to traffic.
