An island once owned by the former Beatle, John Lennon, is up for sale.

Dorninish, off the west coast of Ireland with views across Clew Bay is on the market for 300,000 euros, nearly £240,000.

Lennon bought the island in 1967 and got planning permission to build on it, but he never did so.

He told the New York Times he planned to retire to Dorninish and had even restarted plans to build there when he was killed in 1980.

Yoko Ono sold the island in 1984 to the Gavin brothers, donating the sale price to an Irish orphanage.

The property, known locally as "Beatle island" is being sold by Sherry, Fitzgerald, Crowley in Westport.
