David Neill stabbing - murder accused appears in court

A 20-year-old man has appeared in court charged with murdering David Neill in County Armagh last weekend.

Mr Neill, 46, was stabbed to death at a house in the Parkmore area of Craigavon in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Daniel McCartney, from Enniskeen, Drumgor in Craigavon, was remanded in custody at Lisburn Magistrates Court.

A PSNI detective told the court that during his time in police custody, the defendant had continually denied stabbing Mr Neill.

He also said the accused denied any knowledge of a knife at the scene.

During questioning by a defence solicitor, the detective agreed that police had evidence from persons that the accused did not stab the victim.

However, the officer stressed they also had evidence from others that he did carry out the attack.

Mr McCartney is due to appear in court again by videolink on 12 October.
