Man charged after guns and ammunition found in car on A1

A 52-year-old man has been charged with possession of guns and ammunition with intent to endanger lives.

He was arrested after police officers stopped and searched a car on the A1 dual carriageway near Hillsborough, County Down on Monday evening.

The police operation was part of an investigation into dissident republican terrorist activity.

The man is due to appear before Lisburn Magistrates Court, which is sitting at Craigavon, on Wednesday.

He also charged with having the weapons under suspicious circumstances.
