Three charged over Stewartstown Road, west Belfast, riot

Four vehicles were burnt out on Wednesday night.

Two teenagers and a man have been charged over disturbances in the Stewartstown Road area of west Belfast on Wednesday night.

The trouble began at about 22:30 BST. It also broke out at Divis Street and North Queen Street. No-one was injured.

The west Belfast trouble started as crowds gathered for a bonfire to mark the anniversary of internment in 1971.

Two 17-year-old boys and a 20-year-old man are to appear in court in Lisburn later on Friday.

Four vehicles were burnt out and petrol bombs were thrown at police Land Rovers during the trouble. An Israeli flag was also burnt on the bonfire.

A total of six people were arrested.

On Thursday a 33-year-old man was charged with riot, obstructing police and resisting police.

A 25-year-old man was released on police bail pending further enquiries, while a 13-year-old girl was released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.
