Wedding arrest couple want answers over PSNI treatment

Help

A couple who were wrongly accused of taking part in a sham marriage have spoken of the distress and upset the allegations have caused them.

The police wrongly arrested the couple, moments before the ceremony at the Guildhall in Derry in 2011.

The Police Ombudsman has ruled that Neil McElwee from Castlederg and his pregnant Chinese fiance Yanan Sun, had been unlawfully arrested and detained by the police.

The couple were taken to a police station, forced to dress in forensic clothing and separated.

BBC Newsline's North-West reporter, Keiron Tourish spoke to the couple.
