Conway Group win £6m contract to build hotel in Derry

A £6m contract to build a new hotel and restaurant in Londonderry has been won by Magherafelt-based Conway Group.

Whitbread has contracted Conway to build and fit out the new Premier Inn and Brewers Fayre restaurant at Crescent Link.

The hotel will have 60 bedrooms and the restaurant will seat 200.

The hotel and restaurant are due for completion in November 2012, ahead of the 2013 City of Culture celebrations.

Jim Francis of Whitbread Hotels and Restaurant said: "Premier Inn is a Northern Ireland success story and the business is going from strength to strength in the province.

"Since our first hotel opened in 2008, we have enjoyed fantastic results in Northern Ireland and we are now the largest hotel operator.

"That is the position we want to be in and we are continually on the look out for new exciting locations to offer our customers.

"Crescent Link is an ideal and obvious choice for our first hotel in Derry-Londonderry, and I look forward to getting the hotel built and playing a leading role in the City of Culture celebrations."

When completed, the hotel is expected to creat about 60 new jobs in the Waterside area.
