Tom Elliott calls time on UUP leadership

Help

The Ulster Unionist Party is once again in search of a new leader, following Tom Elliott's dramatic announcement that he is quitting the post after just 18 months.

Mr Elliott accused some members of his party of briefing journalists against him.

On Friday, members of his party paid tribute to him after an emergency meeting of the assembly team - and said they were shocked and surprised by his decision.

BBC Newsline's political correspondent Martina Purdy reports.
