Pair arrested following burglaries targeting elderly women

Two men have been arrested after distraction burglaries took place at the homes of elderly women living in Kilkeel and Tandragee.

The men, aged 23 and 30, have been arrested on suspicion of burglary and going equipped for theft.

The pensioners were targeted on Thursday afternoon.

Shortly afterwards, police stopped a car with two men onboard on the Armagh Road, Newry.

A handbag was taken at the house in Greencastle Road, Kilkeel. Nothing was taken from the house at Ballymore Road, Tandragee. Neither woman was injured.

Police are linking the incidents to five other recent distraction burglaries on Thursday.

Two are believed to have taken place at houses on the Moss Road and Waringsford in Dromore.

A further three houses on the Avenue Road and the Pines Park, Lurgan and the Belfast Road in Dollingstown were broken into.
