A man has died after falling down stairs at an entertainment complex in Portrush.

He was Colin McLeister, 48, a father of three, from Coleraine. He died at the Playhouse on Main Street in the early hours of Saturday.

Police said they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. A 34-year-old man has been arrested.

Police have asked anyone who saw an altercation on the first floor of the venue at 00:50 GMT to contact them.

PSNI Detective Chief Inspector Ian Magee said:"This investigation is very much in its early stages, we are trying to ascertain exactly what happened and that is why I need these people to think about what they saw whenever they were in the Playhouse.

"Did they see Colin McLeister? Did they see him before he went down the stairs at ten to one in the morning? If they did, please contact us."

A post-mortem examination is due to take place on Sunday.
