Martin McGuinness and St Paul

Martin McGuinness Martin McGuinness was compared to St Paul by the Reverend David Latimer

Elsewhere on the BBC website, I've written a piece analysing Martin McGuinness's use of the term "murder" in an interview for the Independent.

If you didn't catch it on BBC Radio Ulster, you might want to listen to this weekend's Inside Politics interview with David Latimer, who continues to defend Martin McGuinness against his critics.

At one point I started to think I was presenting Sunday Sequence, when Mr Latimer referred to St Paul, and I wondered whether he believed the Mid Ulster MP had experienced a road to Damascus conversion.

On a different tack the DUP Finance Minister Sammy Wilson was on good form in the Stormont chamber on Monday, proudly proclaiming his euroscepticism.

Mr Wilson declared he was one of the "better off out campaign".

Sinn Fein's Mitchel McLaughlin asked him to clarify he wasn't speaking for the Stormont executive - a clarification which may be wise given that Europe is due to make its decision next month on funding for the proposed Maze conflict transformation centre.

Its interesting for the second time Mr Latimer has called for the DUP culture minister to be in croke park for the playing of Amhrán nabhFiann. One looks forward to the day when members of the DUP will enbrace not just Irish culture but also the culture of minorities such as Irish travellers, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender.Lets not hope the DUP feel they have evaded the "ropes of success"

It's not goneaway you know. On the one hand we are not to forget the past and on the other we are. Well I for one feel that we should move on, you can't just pick what you want forgotten. We need to move forward and build an ecconomy that will allow us to grow and prosper.

It's a sad day for us if we only want to keep on side with the EU with hope of a few quid to build Maze conflict centre.

eyeswideopen. It's maybe too much to expect from the DUP that they would show any respect for the culture that nationalists identify with, not because they hate the icons of the Irish culture [GAA language music etc] but first and foremost because of who support it.
