Jim Allister wants to be martyr, says speaker Willie Hay

Stormont speaker William Hay has told TUV leader Jim Allister he will not be called to speak in the assembly for one week.

Mr Allister was cut off while asking Peter Robinson what he had said to Martin McGuinness which had led the Sinn Fein man to seek a new job.

Last week, Mr Allister complained about not being called to speak in a series of debates.

Earlier on Tuesday, Mr Hay accused Mr Allister of wanting to be a "martyr"

The speaker had told MLAs the rules for who gets a chance to speak had been agreed by the business committee and he warned MLAs who challenged his authority that he would take action against them.

Mr Allister protested against the speaker's action, but was not ordered out of the chamber.

Instead Mr hay moved on, claiming the TUV leader wanted to be a martyr.
