Pizza Paradise owner fined over dead mouse

The owner of a south Belfast pizza outlet has been fined £1,000 for food hygiene offences after a dead mouse was found on its kitchen floor.

Farzam Esmaily, trading as Pizza Paradise on the Lisburn Road, was also ordered to pay costs of £127 in relation to six offences.

The mouse was found during a routine inspection by an environmental health officer on 9 November, 2009.

Mouse droppings and gnawed bags were also found.

The officer also found hide beetles, associated with decaying animal matter and an indicator of poor hygiene.

A number of possible pest entry points were identified and poor standards of cleaning were also observed.

Belfast City Council, which brought the case, confirmed to Belfast Magistrates court that the conditions in the premises had subsequently improved to their satisfaction.
