TV presenter Christine Bleakley has become engaged to her boyfriend, Chelsea and England midfielder Frank Lampard.

Ms Bleakley's agent said she had accepted a surprise proposal while the couple were in Los Angeles.

"They are obviously both delighted but there are no immediate wedding plans and the couple will not be making any further comment," the agent added.

The couple have been going out together since 2009.

The England international was previously engaged to Elen Rives, with whom he had two daughters.

Ms Bleakley, who is from Newtownards, started her career with BBC Northern Ireland before finding wider fame on the One Show on BBC One.

She now presents Daybreak, the morning show on ITV1.

Ms Bleakley's colleague Tasmin Lucia Khan passed on her congratulations via her Twitter feed.

"Wedding news!! Congratulations to our lovely Christine who has got engaged to Frank Lampard in LA.

"He finally did it!"
