Sinn Fein MLA Oliver McMullan sent death threat by post

A Sinn Fein MLA has received death threats from a loyalist paramilitary group, it has emerged.

Oliver McMullan, MLA for east Antrim, received a bullet in the post on Tuesday morning.

The package, which was addressed to Mr McMullan's constituency office, also contained a card reading "Loyalist Action Force".

Police have said they are "aware" of the incident, but refused to comment on further details.

The Loyalist Action Force is a name which has been used to claim responsibility for a number of bombs, suspect devices and threats since 2001.

Mr McMullan said he refused to be intimidated by "sectarian thugs".

"I am honoured and privileged to be elected by the people of East Antrim to serve them in the Assembly and no amount of threats from sectarian thugs will intimidate me from carrying out my work on their behalf," he said.
