Surfers ride huge storm swell off Ireland

Help

This week's stormy weather caused some huge ocean swells creating massive waves off the west coast of Ireland.

Surfer Alistair Mennie from Portrush took advantage of the gale force conditions to ride one of the biggest waves in the world.

He and his friends filmed this footage on Monday which shows the waves reaching heights of 50ft.

Alistair Mennie said: "Hawaii used to be the wave mecca around the world, but now we've got three or four big wave locations in the country and this wave spot here is one of the best in the world."
