NI building work shows drop over last three months

JCB digger No area of the construction sector showed growth

The volume of construction work in NI has fallen over the last three months according to new figures.

The NI Statistics and Research Agency said the drop was mostly due to a decline in new work, which fell by 5% between April and June compared to the previous quarter.

Year on year building work fell by 14.5% in the second quarter of 2010 compared to the same quarter in 2009.

Repair and maintenance work fell by 0.5% compared to the previous quarter.

The figures are based on returns from construction firms from 1 April to 30 June 2010.
