Teenager sexually assaulted near York's Lendal Bridge

A teenager has been sexually assaulted in York.

The 17-year-old girl was attacked in Dame Judi Dench Walk, near Lendal Bridge, at about 01:30 BST.

The teenager, who was with a 16-year-old girl at the time, had been approached by a man in McDonald's restaurant in Blake Street before being followed, police said.

The area from Museum Gardens to Lendal Bridge has been cordoned off while a forensic examination takes place.

The man who approached them is described as white, in his mid-40s, about 5ft 10in (1.78m) tall, of medium build and with a bald head.

He was wearing a white jacket over a shirt, blue denim jeans and spoke with an eastern European accent.

Police said he was last seen walking along the river path in the direction of Scarborough Bridge just after the attack.

They believe he may have been with two other men before entering McDonald's.
