Dozens of firefighters have been tackling a large blaze at a waste management complex in North Yorkshire.

Crews were called just after 05:00 BST to the Todd Waste Management site on Thirsk Industrial Park.

At its height about 40 firefighters were on scene battling flames in an industrial unit containing 150 tonnes of household rubbish.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said three appliances were still damping down the scene.

Graham Buckle, from the fire service, said the roof of the building had caved in but there was nothing toxic on site and there was no danger to nearby residents.

The cause of the blaze is unknown.
