Shamsul Islam and Habibul Islam committed to crown court

Two men charged over a hoax bomb threat in a North Yorkshire town, will face York Crown Court in June.

Armed police responded to what they believed was an "immediate threat" and sealed off Knaresborough for four hours on 16 October 2013.

Shamsul Islam, 23, and Habibul Islam, both from Leeds, appeared at Harrogate Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Shamsul Islam was remanded in custody while Habibul Islam was granted conditional bail.

Police said a "malicious hoax call" was focused on a pizza takeaway in High Street, Knaresborough.

Shamsul Islam has been charged with three offences of communicating a bomb hoax, while Habibul Islam has been charged with perverting the course of justice and making a false statement to obtain insurance.
