A man arrested in connection with a major tyre fire in North Yorkshire has been released without charge.

The fire at Newgen Recycling Centre in Sherburn-in-Elmet in January involved about 15,000 tonnes of tyres and smouldered for weeks.

North Yorkshire Police arrested a 51-year-old man shortly after the blaze but confirmed he has now been released.

A force spokesman said the investigation into the fire continues.
