Two soldiers were killed when the car they were travelling in hit a tree in North Yorkshire, police have said.

The Seat Leon car left the road close to the entrance to Catterick Golf Club on Leyburn Road, Catterick Garrison, at 20:00 GMT on Saturday.

Police said a 23-year-old man died at the scene and a 20-year-old woman died later at Darlington Memorial Hospital. Their next of kin have been informed.
