A man found with head injuries at the bottom of steps in a car park in Skipton has died.

The 68-year-old was taken to hospital after officers were called to the Gas Street car park on Thursday night.

North Yorkshire Police are treating the death as unexplained and said inquiries were under way to establish how he suffered head injuries.

It is known the man travelled on the number 72 bus from Threshfield to Skipton earlier that evening.

Detectives said he got off the bus at about 18:25 GMT at the main bus station before crossing the footbridge which leads to Gas Street.

Police were called to the car park at 18:45 GMT.

Det Sgt Alan Browne, of Skipton CID, said officers wanted to speak to a man believed to be jogging in the area who stopped at the scene to help.
