Pedestrian dies after collision in North Yorkshire

A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car on a road in North Yorkshire on Thursday.

The 35-year-old man was hit by a Ford Focus on the A171 Scarborough to Whitby Road at 17:40 GMT.

The man is believed to have been crossing the road when he was hit. He was taken to hospital but died later. The driver of the Ford was uninjured.

North Yorkshire Police said the road was closed for more than six and a half hours following the collision.
