York teenager in court charged with street attack

A teenager has appeared in court charged over a street attack in York which left a 51-year-old man with serious head injuries.

Police said the man remains in hospital in a stable condition following the assault on Melrosegate on Thursday.

Billy Allan, 18 of Kempton Close, York, is charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He was remanded in custody by magistrates in York, to appear at the city's crown court on 23 September.
