Motorcyclist killed in North Duffield crash

The crash scene North Yorkshire Police said the biker was pronounced dead at the scene

A motorbike rider has died in a head-on crash with a car near Selby in North Yorkshire.

The 48-year-old man was heading towards Market Weighton from the A19 on a green Kawasaki bike, when he hit a blue BMW travelling in the opposite direction.

It happened just before 18:30 BST on Thursday, at the junction of Main Street and the A163 in North Duffield.

North Yorkshire Police said the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The BMW driver was unhurt.

Since the start of the year 11 motorcyclists have died on North Yorkshire's roads, more than double the number for the whole of 2012.

Deputy Chief Constable Tim Madgwick, of North Yorkshire Police, and road safety groups are due to issue an appeal later to bikers and other motorists to take care on the roads.
