Visit Harrogate tourist organisation launched

A tourist organisation has been launched to try and increase the number of visitors coming to Harrogate.

Visit Harrogate is supported by the council, chamber of trade and commerce, local hotels and the Yorkshire Agricultural Society.

It comes as the town prepares to host part of the opening stages of the Tour de France cycle race in 2014.

The organisation has received funding of £100,000 from North Yorkshire County Council and Harrogate Borough Council.

Project director Angela Harris said: "For too long it [Harrogate] has been one of the best kept secrets and its time we got the message out there."

She added the organisation would also compile more accurate figures for the number of tourists visiting the town and surrounding areas.
