Man 'drove through police cordon while drunk'

A man has been held on suspicion of drink-driving after he allegedly drove through road closures at a crash scene where a father and daughter were hurt.

Police had been called to the collision between a taxi and van on the A658 between Huby and Pool-in-Wharfedale near Harrogate at about 06:00 BST.

The crash, which left a taxi customer and his 10-year-old daughter injured, meant police closed the road.

A 26-year-old York man alleged to have driven through the cordon was arrested.

On its twitter feed, North Yorkshire Police said: "Officers at the scene of serious accident at #Huby have just arrested a drunk male who drove through the road closure. #UnbelievablyStupid."

Police said the father and daughter, from the Richmond area, were being treated at Leeds General Infirmary with chest and abdominal injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening.
