York racecourse-goer dies in Knavesmire stand fall

A man has died after falling in the grandstand at York racecourse in what police said was "a tragic accident".

The 21-year-old from Bradford, who fell at the Knavesmire Stand, was pronounced dead at the scene, North Yorkshire Police said.

The incident happened at 17:30 BST on Saturday and officers said they were not treating the death as suspicious.

Insp Charlotte Bloxham said she wanted anyone who was in the stand at the time to contact the police.

"We do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances and are treating the death as a tragic accident," she said.
