A man in his seventies who suffered burn injuries in an explosion at a house remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

He was rescued by neighbours after the blast caused a fire at the semi-detached house in Hampsthwaite, North Yorkshire on Tuesday night.

The man remains in Wakefield's Pinderfields hospital for treatment.

The fire service are still investigating the incident but it is not being treated as suspicious.

The blast blew out ground floor windows and a door, and the adjoining property was evacuated as a safety precaution.

Gas engineers were also called to the scene.

No-one else was injured police said.
