Speeding biker Gary Dobson who did 144mph on A63 banned

A biker who reached speeds of 144mph (232km/h) on an A-road in North Yorkshire has been banned from riding for six months.

Gary Dobson, 40, of Old Lee Bank, Halifax, West Yorkshire, was caught speeding on the A63 at South Milford, on 7 October.

At an earlier hearing, Dobson had pleaded guilty by letter to riding the BMW RR1000 bike at that speed.

Selby magistrates also imposed a £500 fine in addition to the driving ban.

Dobson's speed of 144mph is the highest detected so far by North Yorkshire Police's mobile safety camera, which was introduced by the force in July 2011.

Insp Dave Brown, of North Yorkshire Police, said: "Mr Dobson has shown shocking disregard for his own safety and that of other road users.

"He should consider himself lucky to be only facing a driving ban and a hole in his bank balance and not something much more serious."
