Man hit by vehicles on A166 near York killed

A pedestrian was killed when he was hit by a number of vehicles on a road near York.

North Yorkshire Police said the incident had happened on the A166 Stamford Bridge Road, near Dunnington, at 17:30 GMT on Tuesday.

Officers said it was not clear why the man, who died at the scene, had been on the carriageway and could not say how many vehicles might have hit him.

The man, who has not been named, is from the York area, police said.

Sgt Pete Wood, from the force, said: "Tragically, the man has been hit by more than one vehicle and we need to establish if there are any other motorists who may have been involved without realising."
